The Bosnian Footballer of the Year, renamed to Idol Nacije (English translation: The Idol of the nation) in 2008, is an annual award given to the best Bosnian football player of the year, as well as recognising and awarding other sports men and women, coaches and game officials in the country. The event was held in 2001 under the Bosnian banner for the first time, with Sergej Barbarez winning the most prestigious award for best player of the year.{{cite web |url=https://www.uefa.com/news-media/news/025e-0f908b319cde-d10e5db60949-1000--bosnia-bows-to-barbarez/ |work=UEFA|author=uefa.com |title=Bosnia bows to Barbarez|date=12 December 2003 |access-date=24 September 2012 }}{{cite web |url=http://www.worldfootball.net/fussballer_des_jahres/bosnien-herzegowina/ |work=worldfootball.net|author=worldfootball.net |title=Player of the year – Bosnia-Herzegovina|date=25 December 2010 |access-date=24 September 2012 }}{{cite web |url=https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/news/newsid=1695101/index.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120907055330/http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/news/newsid=1695101/index.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=September 7, 2012 |work=fifa.com|author=fifa.com |title=Barbarez: The players can become immortals |date=4 September 2012 |access-date=24 September 2012 }}

From 2008 to 2013, the awards was organized by sports news/media website [http://www.sportsport.ba/ SportSport.ba] and broadcast on NTV Hayat and was expanded to include many other award categories. Edin Džeko won three Idol Nacije awards in a row.{{cite web |url=http://sportsport.ba/bh_fudbal/dzekin-hat-trick-novi-naslov-idola-nacije/82849 |work=sportsport.ba|author=sportsport.ba |title=Džekin hat-trick: Novi naslov "Idola nacije" |date=23 June 2012 |access-date=24 September 2012 |language=bs}}{{cite web |url=https://www.fifa.com/worldranking/news/newsid=2107855/index.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130616122052/http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/news/newsid=2107855/index.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=June 16, 2013 |work=fifa.com|author=fifa.com |title=Best-ever Bosnia scale new heights|date=13 June 2013 |access-date=13 June 2013}} Vedad Ibišević and Asmir Begović were the only other winners. From 2010 awards, it was decided that former player Muhamed Konjić would nominate 10 players for the main award of player of the year. In 2008 Sergej Barbarez had this honor, while Mehmed Baždarević received the task in 2009.[http://sportsport.ba/bh_fudbalp-46024.htm Konjić predlaže Idola Nacije – SportSport.ba | BH FUDBAL] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101106042705/http://sportsport.ba/bh_fudbalp-46024.htm |date=2010-11-06 }}

In 2011, it was announced that the ceremony would be held before the end of June, and that all future events would take place during the summer, rather than the winter period.{{cite web|url=http://sportsport.ba/bh_fudbal/proglasenje-idola-nacije-krajem-mjeseca/82349|title=Proglašenje Idola nacije krajem mjeseca|date=15 June 2012|access-date=15 June 2012|language=bs|publisher=sportsport.ba}} The awards therefore are given for performances during the previous season, rather than for the previous calendar year.{{cite web|url=http://sportsport.ba/bh_fudbal/proglasenje-idola-nacije-u-subotu-u-sarajevu/82633|title=Proglašenje "Idola nacije" u subotu u Sarajevu|date=20 June 2012|access-date=20 June 2012|language=bs|publisher=sportsport.ba}} Since 2017, the awards have been given out under the name Kristalnih 11.{{cite web|url=https://spfbih.ba/kristalnih-11/|title=Kristalnih 11|access-date=9 June 2024|language=bs|website=spfbih.ba}}
