History
Karen Brooks recorded "If That's What You're Thinking" on her 1982 album Walk On. The song features two verses, a refrain, a bridge sung in Spanish, followed by a repeat of the chorus and first verse. Erin E. Bauer, in the book Flaco's Legacy: The Globalization of Conjunto describes the song as being about "fear on the part of the vocalist to express vulnerability in the face of a loving relationship."{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=1ca5EAAAQBAJ | title=Flaco's Legacy: The Globalization of Conjunto | publisher=University of Illinois Press | author=Erin E. Bauer | year=2023 | chapter=Collaborative hybridity: Texas Tornados| isbn=978-0-252-05429-7 }} John Lomax III of United Feature Syndicate described the song as having a "Spanish touch".{{cite news | url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/162970671/ | title=Rogers' final Liberty LP out | work=Arizona Daily Star | date=February 27, 1983 | accessdate=September 22, 2023 | author=John Lomax III | pages=I9}} Brian Ahern produced the track, which was written by Randy Sharp.{{cite news | url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/601249917/ | title=Country rhythms: Karen Brooks took the long way around | work=The Shreveport Journal | date=November 26, 1982 | accessdate=September 22, 2023 | author=John Lomax III | pages=C15}}
Texas Tornados covered the song on their 1990 Reprise Records album Texas Tornados. Their rendition adds a verse not present in the original by Brooks, while also altering the words of the Spanish-language bridge. Bauer thought this rendition combined elements of country and conjunto.
