Biography
Yeshu was born at Amid and was the son of Abd al-Ahad of the Qamsha family, who were originally from Banim’am.{{sfnp|Barsoum|2008|p=24}} He became a monk at the Monastery of Qartmin and was ordained as a priest.{{sfnp|Barsoum|2008|p=24}} Yeshu took up writing and studied under Rabban Tuma of Khudayda.{{sfnp|Barsoum|2008|p=24}} He later became bishop of Amid and proclaimed himself as patriarch of Antioch in opposition to Ignatius Simon, who was banished to Cyprus.{{sfnmp|Barsoum|2008|1p=24|Bcheiry|2004|2pp=221–222}}{{efn|Barsoum places Yeshu's ascension in December 1652 whereas Wilmshurst and Burleson & Rompay give 1653.{{sfnmp|1a1=Burleson|1a2=Rompay|1y=2011|1p=489|Wilmshurst|2019|2p=809|Barsoum|2008|3p=24}} According to Barsoum, Yeshu was ordained as Maphrian of the East.{{sfnp|Barsoum|2008|p=24}}}} Yeshu was absolved by Ignatius Simon following the latter's return from exile and, upon his death, Yeshu succeeded him as the legitimate patriarch in 1660, according to Aphrem Barsoum.{{sfnp|Barsoum|2008|p=24}} Yeshu died at Aleppo in 1661.{{sfnp|Bcheiry|2004|p=222}}
