History

John Brien started Important Records in 2001 out of his Newburyport, Massachusetts apartment, initially as an online store. Important's first two releases were Impossible Love by the American songwriter Daniel Johnston and Amlux by the Japanese noise musician Merzbow.{{cite web |url=http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/music/other_stories/documents/02357999.htm |title=State of the art |author=Mike Miliard |date=July 2002 |work=Boston Phoenix |access-date=April 5, 2013 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130406032624/http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/music/other_stories/documents/02357999.htm |archive-date=April 6, 2013 |url-status=dead }}{{cite web |url=http://igloomag.com/profiles/microview-important-records |title=MICROVIEW :: Important Records |author=TJ Norris |date=April 29, 2004 |work=Igloo Magazine |access-date=April 5, 2013}}{{cite web |url=http://behindthewallofsleep.com/2011/04/20/important-records-10-years-on/ |title=Important Records – 10 Years on… |date=April 20, 2011 |work=Behind the Wall of Sleep |access-date=April 5, 2013}} In 2003, Important released A Is for Accident, the debut album of The Dresden Dolls.{{cite web |url=http://importantrecords.com/imprec/imprec015 |title=imprec015 The Dresden Dolls, A is for Accident |publisher=Important Records |access-date=September 16, 2014}}
