In persona episcopi

In persona episcopi ({{langx|en|In the person of the bishop}}) is a Latin expression used by the Roman Catholic Church to indicate a union of two or more dioceses in which the dioceses are administered by a single bishop but undergo no alteration to their diocesan structures (e.g. seminaries, cathedrals, curia officials).{{Cite web |date=22 July 2022 |title=‘In persona episcopi’: diocesan consolidations accelerate in Italy |url=https://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=55570 |access-date=2024-07-22 |website=www.catholicculture.org}} In its mildest form such a union can be temporary, but in other cases it can be an intermediate step towards a union aeque principaliter or a full union.
