Inal is a village and rural commune in Mauritania, situated on the Mauritania Railway line from Nouadhibou to Zouerate.
On the night of November 27, 1990, 28 black soldiers arrested in the previous weeks were allegedly tortured, hung and buried in a "mass grave" at Inal, in a celebratory act of the nation's Independence Day.{{Cite web|url=https://fr.globalvoices.org/2018/12/04/230876/|title=Ces 28 militaires mauritaniens pendus le 28 novembre 1990|last=Bah|first=Abdoulaye|date=2018-12-04|website=Global Voices|language=fr|access-date=2018-12-15}} Similar acts of ethnic cleansing were sanctioned by the Mauritanian government, as part of a larger campaign of terror and human rights abuses against black Mauritanians, from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.Amnesty International Report 1990, London, Amnesty International Publications, 1990{{cite book|title=Annuaire de l'Afrique du Nord|last=Duteil|first=Mireille|year=1989|edition=du CNRS|volume=XXVIII|language=French|chapter=Chronique mauritanienne}}{{citation|title=Press release|date=5 April 1991|publisher=Amnesty International|quote=3,000 were arrested}}
Many survivors of such violence who live in the area and other affected communities still demand justice.{{Cite web|url=https://globalvoices.org/2012/12/05/mauritania-commemorating-inals-massacre-against-black-soldiers/|title=Mauritania: Commemorating Inal's Massacre against Black Soldiers|last=Ahmed|first=Gedo|date=2012-12-05|website=Global Voices|publisher=Global Voices|language=en|access-date=2018-12-15}}{{Cite web|url=http://afrique.le360.ma/mauritanie/societe/2016/11/28/7878-mauritanie-independance-entre-celebration-de-la-fete-nationale-et-souvenirs-douloureux-7878|title=Mauritanie-indépendance: entre célébration de la fête nationale et souvenirs douloureux|last=Sidya|first=Cheikh|date=2016-11-28|website=Le360 Afrique|language=fr|access-date=2018-12-15}}
