History

ISS was created from the former Defence Communication Services Agency (DCSA) on 1 April 2007.{{cite web|url=http://www.dasa.mod.uk/publications/UK-defence-statistics-compendium/2009/2009.pdf|archive-url=http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20140116144937/http://www.dasa.mod.uk/publications/UK-defence-statistics-compendium/2009/2009.pdf|url-status=dead|archive-date=16 January 2014|title=UK Defence Statistics Compendium 2009|publisher=Ministry of Defence|accessdate=3 December 2018}}

The organisation was spread across a number of sites, but in 2010 a £690 million programme was announced to unite ISS at MoD Corsham, Witshire in a modern office complex with 1,874 workspaces.{{cite web |url=https://www.gov.uk/government/news/corsham-project-will-make-defence-connections-more-efficient |title=Corsham project will make Defence connections more efficient - Announcements - Inside Government |publisher=GOV.UK |date=2010-08-13 |accessdate=2013-04-07}}

In 2019 ISS and a number of organisations were brought together as Defence Digital, with an annual budget of over £2 billion and about 2,400 staff including military, civil servants and contractors, led by Ministry of Defence chief information officer Charles Forte.{{cite news |url=https://www.cio.com/article/3525212/ministry-of-defence-cio-charles-forte-interview-digitising-warfare-in-the-information-age.html |title=Ministry of Defence CIO Charles Forte interview - Digitising Warfare in the Information Age |last=Qualtrough |first=Edward |work=CIO |date=16 December 2019 |access-date=5 April 2020}}
