The Inkanyamba is a legendary serpent said to be living in a waterfall lake area in the northern forests near Pietermaritzburg most commonly in the base of Howick Falls, South Africa. The Zulu people of the area believe it to be a large serpent with an equine head. It is a very tall creature. Most active in the summer months, it is believed that the Inkanyamba's anger causes the seasonal storms.{{cite web |url=http://www.getawaytoafrica.com/content/magazine/features/feature.asp?id=909 |title=Legends of the deep |last1=Exelby |first1=Narina |date=March 2004 |website=Gateway to Africa |publisher= |access-date=18 June 2007 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20060113075226/http://www.getawaytoafrica.com/content/magazine/features/feature.asp?id=909|archivedate=13 January 2006|quote=}}{{Cite report|url=https://wedocs.unep.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.11822/25092/GAN_DAC_Exchange_201611.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y|title=Regional Knowledge Sharing Exchange Visit|date=25 November 2016|publisher=Global Adaptation Network, Durban Adaptation Charter, United Nations|location=Pemba, Mozambique|access-date=23 July 2021}}
