Origins
InsideHook began as a New York City based daily email lifestyle newsletter targeted at men.{{cite web|newspaper=New York Post|url=https://nypost.com/2012/02/27/inside-hook-e-targets-successful-men-in-their-40s/|title=Inside Hook e-targets successful men in their 40s|author=Gould, Jennifer|date=February 27, 2012}}
Entrepreneur Andy Russell was inspired by a similar email newsletter, DailyCandy, whose target demographic was young women.
Russell gathered $22 million in funds to start Trigger Media Group and its first startup, InsideHook, launched in 2012.
Investors
In 2017, investors in Trigger Media Group and InsideHook began to express doubts about Andy Russell's ability to run the company properly despite Russell's refusal to collect a salary.{{cite web|newspaper=New York Post|url=https://nypost.com/2017/06/08/investors-getting-anxious-with-trigger-media-founder/|title=Investors getting anxious with Trigger Media founder|author=Kelly, Keith J.|date=June 8, 2017}}
Russell later stated that he understood the investors concerns.
Critical reception
New York Daily News dubbed InsideHook, "A new free daily email service that provides "inspiration for driven men," adding, "Make no mistake about it, InsideHook knows what they’re talking about."{{cite web|newspaper=New York Daily News|title=The best afternoon ever: New men’s lifestyle service InsideHook puts the cool back in NYC|url=https://www.nydailynews.com/2012/06/29/the-best-afternoon-ever-new-mens-lifestyle-service-insidehook-puts-the-cool-back-in-nyc/|author=Osterhout, Jacob E.|date=June 29, 2012}}
