International Critical Commentary

The International critical commentary on the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments (International Critical Commentary or ICC) is a series of commentaries in English on the text of the Old Testament and New Testament. It has been published by T&T Clark,{{cite journal |last1=Riches |first1=John |title=The Dissemination of Scottish Theology: T&T Clark |journal=The Expository Times |date=November 2021 |volume=133 |issue=2 |pages=49–60 |doi=10.1177/00145246211043336}} now an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing.{{cite web |last1=Michaels |first1=Steve |title=Cook Library: Bible Commentaries: Technical Commentary Series |url=https://guides.westernsem.edu/bible/commentaries/technical |website=guides.westernsem.edu |language=en}}

Initially started in 1895, the International Critical Commentary series is a highly regarded academic-level commentary on the Bible. The ICC is described as "a venerable institution in biblical study and interpretation", "known for its detailed, critical, and theological interpretation"{{cite journal |last1=Fitzmyer |first1=Joseph A. |title=Book reviews |journal=Theological Studies |date=March 1996 |volume=57 |issue=1 |pages=145 |doi=10.1177/004056399605700111 |url=}} and "the gold standard of critical commentaries for the last century".{{cite journal |last1=Johnson |first1=Benjamin J. No unifying scheme is sought but each scholar has been free to express their expertise.{{cite web|title=Review of the series|work=readingacts.com|date=23 August 2011 |url=http://readingacts.com/2011/08/23/more-free-books-the-international-critical-commentary-icc/|access-date=30 November 2015}} Many of its volumes are continue to be cited as among the best commentaries on their respective books, decades after they were written.{{cite news |last1=Armerding |first1=Carl E. |title=Genesis through Job |url=https://www.christianitytoday.com/1972/01/genesis-through-job/ |access-date=17 April 2025 |work=Christianity Today |date=21 January 1972}}

The original editors of the series were Samuel Rolles Driver, Alfred A. A new series began with C. E. B. Cranfield's commentary on Romans in 1975 under the editorship of Cranfield, John Emerton and Graham Stanton.
