The International Diocese was a diocese of the Anglican Church in North America, comprising at its dissolution 14 congregations in 6 American states, Colorado, Kentucky, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The diocesan office is located in Carrollton, Texas. The International Diocese congregations stretch from Texas to New York.
History
The International Diocese was a founding member of the Anglican Church in North America in 2009, with Bill Atwood as its first bishop. The International Diocese originated from the fact that many congregations in the United States were under the authority of foreign Anglican churches. One of these was the Anglican Church of Kenya, of which Atwood was a suffragan bishop at the All Saints Cathedral Diocese in Nairobi and of the Missionary Convocation of Kenya in the United States.{{cite web|url=http://www.idio.net/content/bishop|title=From the Bishop - Archives - International Diocese|website=www.idio.net|access-date=2012-03-15|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110829062637/http://www.idio.net/content/bishop|archive-date=2011-08-29|url-status=dead}} As regional dioceses formed in the ACNA, a number of congregations remained in the non-geographical International Diocese in order to fund Atwood's position as dean of international affairs for the province.{{cite web |last1=Gristy |first1=Wes |title=OUR DIOCESAN FUTURE |url=https://www.allsaintsjackson.com/blog/post/our-diocesan-future |website=All Saints Anglican Church |access-date=22 May 2023 |date=April 28, 2023}}
Atwood announced his intention to retire in June 2024, in advance of which date congregations in the transitional diocese discerned their future homes in other ACNA dioceses. In conjunction with Atwood's retirement, the diocese was formally dissolved effective July 1, 2024.{{cite web |title=Thank You Bishop Atwood |url=https://www.idio.net/bishops_thank_you |publisher=International Diocese |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240621171755/https://www.idio.net/bishops_thank_you |archive-date=2024-06-21 |quote=With the diocese being dissolved effective July 1, 2024, Bishop Atwood will be assuming a new role within the ACNA.}}{{cite web |title=Vestry |url=https://churchofstbarts.org/Chatters/Color%20Chatter-JULY%202024.pdf |website=The Chatter |publisher=St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church |access-date=6 July 2024 |page=2 |date=July 2024}}{{cite web |last1=Gristy |first1=Wes |title=Provincial Assembly |url=https://cpmfiles1.com/allsaintsjackson.com/crown-june-july-2024.pdf |website=The Crown |publisher=All Saints Anglican Church |access-date=6 July 2024 |date=June–July 2024}}
