History
ITF was founded in 1924 by Richard St. Barbe Baker. Following his work in Kenya creating Watu wa Mitu (People of the Trees) with Chief Josiah Njonjo, he returned to the United Kingdom with the goal of raising awareness about the benefits of reforestation around the world by creating the charity Men of the Trees.[https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=CwA-AAAAIBAJ&sjid=gEkMAAAAIBAJ&pg=6347,2716036&dq=men-of-the-trees+palestine&hl=en The Men of the Trees], The Glasgow Herald - Jun 18, 1929. In 1929, a branch was opened in Palestine.
In 1992, Men of the Trees was renamed to the International Tree Foundation, and has continued to work around the world in local communities on a variety of projects centred around reforestation, environmental protection and community-building.{{Cite news|url=http://internationaltreefoundation.org/history/|title=History - International Tree Foundation|work=International Tree Foundation|access-date=2018-01-10|language=en-US|archive-date=2018-01-11|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180111052727/http://internationaltreefoundation.org/history/|url-status=dead}} In Australia there is currently still a small organization that goes by the name Men of the Trees,{{Cite web|title=Past & Present {{!}} Men Of The Trees WA|url=http://www.menofthetrees.com.au/about-mott/history/ |access-date=2018-01-13 |website=www.menofthetrees.com.au |language=en-US}} although in England, where the charity originated, the original charity has now been fully rebranded as the International Tree Foundation.{{Cite news |title=History - International Tree Foundation |language=en-US |work=International Tree Foundation |url=http://internationaltreefoundation.org/history/ |access-date=2018-01-13 |archive-date=2018-01-11 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180111052727/http://internationaltreefoundation.org/history/ |url-status=dead }}
