The Iraqi First Division League is a football league that is the third tier of the Iraqi football league system, which was founded in 1974. The league consists of 20 teams split into two groups in the first stage. The top four teams in each group qualify for the second stage, where they are split into two further groups. The two group winners in the second stage are promoted directly to the Iraqi Premier Division League, while the two bottom teams in the first stage are relegated to the Iraqi Second Division League.{{cite web|url=https://ifa.iq/category/comp/2nd-leg/|title=دوري الدرجة الثانية|language=ar|publisher=Iraq Football Association}} The league is governed by the Iraq Football Association (IFA).{{cite web|url=https://almutalee.com/news/%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%86%D8%A9-%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%A8%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%A7%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AF-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%83%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82%D9%8A-%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%AF%D9%91%D8%AF-%D9%85%D9%88%D8%B9%D8%AF-%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%B7%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%82-%D8%AF%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D8%B1%D8%AC%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AB%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9|title=لجنة مسابقات اتحاد الكرة العراقي تحدّد موعد انطلاق دوري الدرجة الثانية|date=26 October 2021|language=ar|publisher=Al-Mutalee}}
