Prior to the 2021 contest, Italy had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest six times since its debut in {{Escyr|2014|Junior}}, having won the contest on their first appearance with the song "{{lang|it|Tu primo grande amore|italic=unset}}", performed by Vincenzo Cantiello. At Junior Eurovision
