The Itombe Formation is a geological formation of the Kwanza Basin in Angola dated to the Coniacian stage of the Late Cretaceous. The environment of deposition is shallow marine. Reptile fossils have been recovered from the Tadi beds locality within the formation, including the dinosaur Angolatitan,{{Cite journal |last1=Mateus |first1=Octávio |last2=Jacobs |first2=Louis L. |last3=Schulp |first3=Anne S. |last4=Polcyn |first4=Michael J. |last5=Tavares |first5=Tatiana S. |last6=Buta Neto |first6=André |last7=Morais |first7=Maria Luísa |last8=Antunes |first8=Miguel T. |date=March 2011 |title=Angolatitan adamastor, a new sauropod dinosaur and the first record from Angola |journal=Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências |volume=83 |issue=1 |pages=221–233 |doi=10.1590/S0001-37652011000100012 |pmid=21437383 |issn=0001-3765|doi-access=free }} the mosasaurs Angolasaurus and Mosasaurus iembeensis and the turtle Angolachelys.{{Cite journal |last1=Mateus |first1=Octávio |last2=Jacobs |first2=Louis |last3=Polcyn |first3=Michael |last4=Schulp |first4=Anne S. |last5=Vineyard |first5=Diana |last6=Buta Neto |first6=André |last7=Telles Antunes |first7=Miguel |date=December 2009 |title=The Oldest African Eucryptodiran Turtle from the Cretaceous of Angola |journal=Acta Palaeontologica Polonica |language=en |volume=54 |issue=4 |pages=581–588 |doi=10.4202/app.2008.0063 |issn=0567-7920|doi-access=free }} The Itombe formation was formerly considered Turonian in age, but new data suggests to be Coniacian.{{cite book |last1=Mateus |first1=Octávio |title=Biodiversity of Angola |last2=Callapez |first2=Pedro M. |last3=Polcyn |first3=Michael J. |last4=Schulp |first4=Anne S. |last5=Gonçalves |first5=António Olímpio |last6=Jacobs |first6=Louis L. |chapter=The Fossil Record of Biodiversity in Angola Through Time: A Paleontological Perspective |publisher=Springer International Publishing |pages=53–76 |language=en |doi=10.1007/978-3-030-03083-4_4 |date=2019|isbn=978-3-030-03082-7 |s2cid=133717540 }}
