JY1-SAT is a cubesat that is Jordan's first satellite. It was launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in the United States on 3 December 2018. It is named in tribute of the late King Hussein who was an amateur ham radio operator; his callsign was "JY1". The project was built by Jordanian students from various universities, and was funded by Jordan's Crown Prince Foundation.{{cite web|url=http://www.jordantimes.com/news/local/crown-prince-announces-launch-first-jordanian-mini-satellite|title=Crown Prince announces launch of first Jordanian mini satellite|work=The Jordan Times|date=3 December 2018|accessdate=4 December 2018}}{{cite web|url=https://spaceflightnow.com/2018/12/03/spacex-launches-swarm-of-satellites-re-flies-rocket-for-third-time/|title=SpaceX launches swarm of satellites, flies rocket for third time|work=Space Flight Now|accessdate=4 December 2018|date=3 December 2018}}{{cite web|url=https://en.royanews.tv/news/15812/First-Jordanian-made-satellite-to-launch-|title=First Jordanian-made satellite to launch!|date=3 December 2018|accessdate=4 December 2018|work=Ro'ya}}{{cite web|url=https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2018/12/spacex-falcon-9-sso-multi-sat-launch/2/|title=SpaceX Falcon 9 launches SSO-A multi-sat mission|work=NASA Space Flight|date=3 December 2018|accessdate=4 December 2018}}
