John Lyall (16 April 1881 – 17 February 1944) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper.

Career

Born in Dundee but raised on Tyneside,{{cite book | last = Mitchell | first = Andy | url=https://www.scottishsporthistory.com/the-men-who-made-scotland.html |title = The men who made Scotland: The definitive Who's Who of Scottish Football Internationalists 1872-1939 | publisher = Amazon | year = 2021 | isbn=9798513846642}} Lyall played club football for Jarrow, Sheffield Wednesday, Manchester City and Dundee, and made one appearance for Scotland in 1905.{{cite book|title=Scotland Who's Who: International Players 1872–2013|author=Paul Smith|publisher=Pitch Publishing|year=2013|page=160}}

He made 295 appearances in all competitions for Wednesday{{cite web|url=http://www.adrianbullock.com/swfc/stats/play0356.htm|title=Profile|accessdate=9 May 2015|publisher=The Sheffield Wednesday Archive}} and won the Football League title twice (1902–03, 1903–04) and the FA Cup once (1907) during his eight years with them.

He made 44 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City{{cite web|url=http://bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/History/Players/Player.aspx?id=194|title=Profile|accessdate=9 May 2015|publisher=BlueMoon}} and won the Second Division title in 1909–10 during his time with them.

Personal life
