Jackson Munro Bird (born 11 December 1986){{cite web|url=http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-domestic-2011/content/player/215152.html |title=Jackson Bird |publisher=Espncricinfo.com |access-date=2013-08-09}} is an Australian international cricketer. He has played for Australia in the past and currently plays first-class cricket for New South Wales. Bird is a fast-medium bowler. He is originally from Sydney and was educated at Saint Ignatius' College, Riverview and St Pius X College, Chatswood. Bird left the Manly club to further his career with the Tasmanian Tigers in the 2011–2012 season.

Early career

In March 2012, Bird took a hat-trick against Western Australia at the Bellerive Oval.{{cite web|last=Warren|first=Stu|title=Bird puts Tigers in control|url=http://www.sportal.com.au/cricket-news-display/bird-puts-tigers-in-control-165587|publisher=Sportal|access-date=10 March 2012|archive-url=https://archive.today/20121230163508/http://www.sportal.com.au/cricket-news-display/bird-puts-tigers-in-control-165587|archive-date=30 December 2012|url-status=dead}} He finished with match figures of 11/95 and helped Tasmania to a spot in the Sheffield Shield final.

Domestic career

After 10 Sheffield Shield matches, Bird had taken 62 wickets.{{cite web|last=Willoughby|first=James|title=Bird is the word|url=http://www.sportal.com.au/cricket-opinion-display/bird-is-the-word-203905|publisher=Sportal|access-date=16 October 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121020082834/http://www.sportal.com.au/cricket-opinion-display/bird-is-the-word-203905|archive-date=20 October 2012|url-status=dead}} These came at an average of 17.30 and a strike rate of 36.1 – which was the best in the competition's 120-year history at that point.

Bird does not bowl express pace but his ability to swing the ball both ways has proven very successful in domestic cricket. He plays in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers.

In March 2018, Cricket Australia named Bird in their Sheffield Shield team of the year.{{cite web |url=https://www.cricket.com.au/news/sheffield-shield-team-year-season-17-18-burns-renshaw-bird-tremain-ferguson-doran-labuschagne-wade/2018-03-18 |title=Our Sheffield Shield team of the year |access-date=18 March 2018 |work=Cricket Australia}}
