Jaenimonas is a genus of trypanosomatid parasite that infects mushroom-feeding Drosophila, similar to Crithidia parasites of Bumblebees. Jaenimonas drosophilae is the sole representative of this genus.{{Cite journal |doi = 10.1128/mBio.01356-15|pmid = 26374124|title = Infection Dynamics and Immune Response in a Newly Described Drosophila-Trypanosomatid Association|journal = mBio|volume = 6|issue = 5|year = 2015|last1 = Hamilton|first1 = Phineas T.|last2 = Votýpka|first2 = Jan|last3 = Dostálová|first3 = Anna|last4 = Yurchenko|first4 = Vyacheslav|last5 = Bird|first5 = Nathan H.|last6 = Lukeš|first6 = Julius|last7 = Lemaitre|first7 = Bruno|last8 = Perlman|first8 = Steve J.|pages = e01356-15|pmc = 4600116}} The genus is named in honor of John Jaenike, a prominent ecologist and evolutionary biologist whose work on mushroom-feeding flies laid the foundation for studies on mycophagous Drosophila.{{cite web|url=https://academictree.org/flytree/tree.php?pid=19906|title=FlyTree - John Jaenike Family Tree|website=academictree.org|accessdate=2019-04-18}}{{cite web|url=https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=44WuWaEAAAAJ&hl=en|title=John Jaenike |accessdate=2019-04-18}}{{cite journal | last1=Jaenike |first1=J. |title=Resource Predictability and Niche Breadth in the Drosophila quinaria Species Group |journal=Evolution |volume=32 |issue=3 |pages=676–678 |url=https://www.aroid.org/gallery/gibernau/1979/Resource%20predictability%20and%20niche%20-%20Jaenike%201978.pdf |accessdate=2019-04-18|jstor=2407734|year=1978 |doi=10.1111/j.1558-5646.1978.tb04613.x |pmid=28567956 |s2cid=43186549 }} Jaenike was also an early proponent of the Red Queen hypothesis.[http://www.indiana.edu/~curtweb/Research/Red_Queen%20hyp.html The Red Queen Hypothesis] at Indiana University.
