History

James Logan High School was named after pioneer James Logan, who came to Alvarado (former settlement, now part of Union City{{cite book |last1=Durham |first1=David L. |title=California's Geographic Names: A Gazetteer of Historic and Modern Names of the State |date=1998 |publisher=Word Dancer Press |location=Clovis, CA |isbn=1-884995-14-4}}) from Derry, Ireland in 1885. After World War II, the growth of Union City was so tremendous, a new high school was built to serve that district. James Logan served on the Washington Union High School Board of Trustees for many years and had used his own farming equipment to condition the sports field at the new school, and the school was aptly named after his service and commitment to local education.{{cite book |last1=Sandoval |first1=John S. |title=The history of Washington Township |date=1985 |publisher=Mt.
