James Man (1755–1823) was the founder of Man Group.
Born in Whitechapel and apprenticed to a William Humphrey as a barrel maker, James Man decided to establish his own business as a sugar-broker in 1783.{{cite news|url=https://www.thetimes.com/business-money/markets/article/money-pours-into-man-groups-funds-7l6kj2qh2|title=Money pours into Man Group's funds|date=1 March 2018|newspaper=The Times|access-date=23 August 2021}}
