History

Percy Hansen and Bryon Hansen bought the Jamestown Alert in 1925 from William Kellogg. The Alert's history dated back to July 1878, and Kellogg had been the owner since 1886.[http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85042404/ About Jamestown Alert], Chronicling America, summary by State Historical Society of North Dakota The Hansens renamed it the Jamestown Sun, and Byron served as publisher. In 1988, Byron's son Gordon (who had taken over as publisher) sold the paper to the American Publishing Company (later Hollinger International); they sold it in 2000 to the current owner, Forum Communications.{{Cite web |date=April 6, 2012 |title=Gordon Hansen, former Sun owner, dies Thursday |url=https://www.jamestownsun.com/content/gordon-hansen-former-sun-owner-dies-thursday |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161025111043/https://www.jamestownsun.com/content/gordon-hansen-former-sun-owner-dies-thursday |archive-date=October 25, 2016 |access-date=October 5, 2024 |website=Jamestown Sun}} The paper moved from evening publication to a morning edition in 1992.{{Cite web |last=Norman |first=Keith |date=July 3, 2008 |title=Sun will turn 130 Friday |url=https://www.jamestownsun.com/content/sun-will-turn-130-friday |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161025111207/https://www.jamestownsun.com/content/sun-will-turn-130-friday |archive-date=October 25, 2016 |access-date=October 2, 2024 |website=Jamestown Sun}}
