Jay Westerveld (frequently misspelled Westervelt and Westerveldt) is an ecologist {{ cite web|url=http://www.go-green.ae/greenstory_view.php?storyid=1202|title=Green Stories|accessdate=16 Jan 2018}} and researcher of habitats associated with endangered species including the clam shrimp, bog turtle, and the northern cricket frog. Westerveld coined the term "greenwashing".
Career
In 1986, Westerveld coined the term "greenwash" in an essay examining practices of the hotel industry.
