Jean Auguste Margueritte (15 January 1823 – 6 September 1870), French General, father of Victor Margueritte and Paul Margueritte.
After a career in Algeria,{{Cite journal|last1=Cole|first1=F. Russell|last2=Wilson|first2=Don E.|date=2015-08-31|title=Felis margarita (Carnivora: Felidae)|journal=Mammalian Species|volume=47|issue=924|pages=63–77|doi=10.1093/mspecies/sev007|issn=0076-3519|doi-access=free|pmc=7149465}} General Margueritte was mortally wounded in the great cavalry charge at Sedan, in which the Emperor was defeated and captured. He died in Belgium.{{EB1911|inline=y|wstitle=Margueritte, Paul and Victor|volume=17|page=706}} An account of his life was published by his son, Paul Margueritte as Mon père (1884; enlarged ed., 1897).
The sand cat is named in his honour, being given the binomial name Felis margarita.
