Jerrabomberra Creek, a partly perennial stream of the Murrumbidgee catchment within the Murray–Darling basin, is located in the Capital Country region spanning both New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
Jerrabomberra is derived from the Aboriginal word, meaning "afraid of lightning". The traditional custodians of the land surrounding Jerrabomberra Creek are the Ngunnawal Aboriginal people;{{cite web |url=http://www.molonglocatchment.com.au/Documents/Catchment_Strategy/MCS_2005.pdf |date=May 2005 |pages=24–25 |title=Molonglo Catchment Strategy: 2004-2024 |publisher=Molonglo Catchment Group Inc. |access-date=15 February 2013 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130410073654/http://molonglocatchment.com.au/Documents/Catchment_Strategy/MCS_2005.pdf |archive-date=10 April 2013 |url-status=dead }} it lies close to the lands of the neighbouring Ngarigo people.{{Cite web|last=Studies|first=Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander|date=2020-07-12|title=Map of Indigenous Australia|url=https://aiatsis.gov.au/explore/map-indigenous-australia|access-date=2021-04-26|website=aiatsis.gov.au|language=en}}
Location and features
The creek rises in New South Wales (NSW), below Lobb Hill, between Williamsdale and Royalla, and flows generally north and north–west, before reaching its confluence with the Molonglo River into Lake Burley Griffin, to the north of Narrabundah, in South Canberra, within the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).{{NSW GNR|id=MaYbwpWAGH|title=Jerrabomberra Creek|date=1 August 1969|access-date=15 February 2013}} The creek descends {{convert|452|m}} over its {{convert|35|km}} course, and has a catchment area of {{convert|128|km2}}.{{cite web |url=http://www.qcc.nsw.gov.au/ArticleDocuments/322/Jerrabomberra%20Creek%20Plan%20of%20Management.pdf.aspx |title=Jerrabomberra Creek Plan of Management (Draft) |date=September 2005 |publisher=Queanbeyan City Council |page=3 |access-date=15 February 2013}}
=Jerrabomberra Wetlands=
Prior to reaching Lake Burley Griffin, the creek flows through a series of significant artificially-formed wetlands, the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, with an estimated 170 bird species, including the migratory Latham’s snipe; and eleven fish species, as well as the eastern water rat, platypus and eastern snake-necked tortoise. The wetlands include a silt trap, a series of billabongs, and a swamp.{{cite news |url=http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/grand-plans-for-jerrabomberra-wetlands-20120803-23l7q.html |work=The Canberra Times |date=4 August 2012 |title=Grand plans for Jerrabomberra wetlands |author=Jean, Peter |access-date=15 February 2013}}{{cite web|url=http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/390661/jerrabomberra_wetlands_brochure.pdf |title=Jerrabomberra Wetlands brochure |work=Canberra’s Haven of Biodiversity |publisher=Government of the Australian Capital Territory |access-date=15 February 2013 }}{{dead link|date=April 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }}
