History
=Formation and debut=
Jets Overhead was formed in 2003 by singer Adam Kittredge, guitarist Piers Henwood (cousin of Kittredge), bassist Jocelyn Greenwood (high school friend of Kittredge), and the band's first drummer, Brendan Pye. Soon after, vocalist Antonia Freybe-Smith joined, and Pye was replaced by Luke Renshaw.{{cite web |url=http://www.jadedexpressions.com/feature/articles/jetsoverhead.php |title=Crossing the Bridge: An Interview with Jets Overhead |work=jadedexpressions.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}} Kittredge came up with the name Jets Overhead while observing air traffic patterns in London, England.{{cite web |url=http://www.spinner.ca/2010/03/08/sxsw-2010-jets-overhead/ |title=Jets Overhead Interview: SXSW 2010 |author=Jenny Charlesworth |date=March 8, 2010 |work=spinner.ca |accessdate=July 12, 2011 |archive-date=October 8, 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111008150806/http://www.spinner.ca/2010/03/08/sxsw-2010-jets-overhead/ |url-status=dead }}

=''Bridges'': Early adoption of voluntary purchase model=
In 2006, Jets Overhead made their first full-length album, Bridges, available for free download on their website under a voluntary purchase ("pay what you want") model, over a year before British rock group Radiohead eventually popularized the model with In Rainbows.{{cite web |url=http://www.chartattack.com/features/79823/cmw-2010-hot-acts-jets-overhead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100310091932/http://www.chartattack.com/features/79823/cmw-2010-hot-acts-jets-overhead |url-status=usurped |archive-date=March 10, 2010 |title=CMW 2010 Hot Acts: Jets Overhead |author=Siobhan Ozenge |date=March 2, 2010 |work=chartattack.com |publisher=drupal.org |accessdate=July 12, 2011}}{{cite web |url=http://www.martlet.ca/martlet/article/jets-overhead-represent-their-canadian-rock-roots/ |title=Jets Overhead represent their Canadian rock roots |author=Clare Walton |date=October 8, 2010 |work=martlet.ca |accessdate=July 12, 2011 |archive-date=September 27, 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110927151840/http://www.martlet.ca/martlet/article/jets-overhead-represent-their-canadian-rock-roots/ |url-status=dead }}{{cite web |url=http://www.toromagazine.com/music/interviews/dac21074-214c-d794-1d2d-a5f175da1c09/Jets-Overhead/index.html |title=Jets Overhead |author=Jesse Skinner |date=September 27, 2009 |work=toromagazine.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}}{{cite web |url=http://addictedtovinyl.com/blog/2009/07/21/new-sophomore-release-available-now-from-jets-overhead-grab-your-seat/ |title=New sophomore release available now from Jets Overhead – Grab Your Seat! |date=July 21, 2009 |work=addictedtovinyl.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}}{{cite web |url=http://blastmagazine.com/the-magazine/entertainment/jets-overhead-take-off-with-no-nations/ |title=Jets Overhead take off with "No Nations" |author=Elizabeth Raftery |date=June 1, 2009 |work=blastmagazine.com |publisher=bmediaventures.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}} Jets Overhead were eventually recognized as one of the first bands who attempted to address the challenges presented by digital music distribution and online trading, with the band's website stating at the time that "new systems for distributing music should be driven by the public rather than by existing paradigms which no longer apply to the digital world."{{cite web |url=http://citizendick.org/2009/06/16/jets-overhead-no-nations-album-review/ |title=Jets Overhead – No Nations – Album Review |date=June 16, 2009 |work=citizendick.org |accessdate=July 12, 2011}}{{cite web |url=http://www.guttersnipenews.com/music/jets-overhead/ |title=Interview Jets Overhead's Adam Kittredge |date=May 25, 2009 |work=guttersnipenews.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011 |archive-date=April 5, 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110405012446/http://www.guttersnipenews.com/music/jets-overhead/ |url-status=dead }}{{cite web |url=http://www.upvenue.com/music-news/blog-headline/1079/interview-with-jets-overhead.html |title=Interview with Jets Overhead |date=July 1, 2009 |work=upvenue.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}} Bridges was produced by Neil Osborne, lead singer of the Canadian rock group 54-40,{{cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/artist/neil-osborne-p111529/credits |title=Neil Osborne |publisher=AllMusic|accessdate=July 12, 2011}} and mixed by Warne Livesey.{{cite web |url=http://jetsoverhead.bandcamp.com/album/bridges |title=Bridges |work=jetsoverhead.bandcamp.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011}} The album explores themes of island living and the west coast of Canada.{{cite web |url=http://www.ottawaxpress.ca/music/music.aspx?iIDArticle=9157 |archive-url=https://archive.today/20120910180707/http://www.ottawaxpress.ca/music/music.aspx?iIDArticle=9157 |url-status=dead |archive-date=September 10, 2012 |title=Bliss the sky |author=Stuart Trew |date=May 11, 2006 |work=ottawaxpress.ca |accessdate=July 12, 2011 }}{{cite web |url=http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/J/Jets_Overhead/2007/02/26/3671434.html |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130115061126/http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/J/Jets_Overhead/2007/02/26/3671434.html |url-status=usurped |archive-date=January 15, 2013 |title=Jets Overhead fire up a storm |author=Yuri Wuensch |date=February 26, 2007 |work=jam.canoe.ca |accessdate=July 12, 2011}} It eventually led to the band's first Juno nomination, in 2007.{{cite web |url=http://www.chancentre.com/whats-on/live-sessions-jets-overhead |title=The Live Sessions – Jets Overhead |date=October 8, 2009 |work=chancentre.com |accessdate=July 12, 2011 |archive-date=September 29, 2011 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110929142121/http://www.chancentre.com/whats-on/live-sessions-jets-overhead |url-status=dead }}

=''Boredom and Joy''=
Jets Overhead released their third studio album, Boredom and Joy, in 2012. It was produced by Emery Dobyns, who also contributed additional keyboards and percussion. The album was recorded in various locations, including the band’s home studio in Victoria, British Columbia. Its themes revolve around the duality of life's mundane and joyful moments, which is reflected in the title track.
