She also received encouragement from figures such as DJ Rashad, who she communicated with online.

After making the track "Erotic Heat", she was hesitant to release it because it did not fit the conventional sound of a footwork song. The track was ultimately released on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works, Vol. 2 compilation in 2011, which showcased Chicago juke and footwork artists and brought Jlin attention. The song was later used to accompany a 2014 Rick Owens fashion show.{{cite web|last1=Beta|first1=Andy|title=Rising: Never Scared: The Fearless Footwork of Jlin|url=http://pitchfork.com/features/rising/9627-never-scared-the-fearless-footwork-of-jlin/|website=Pitchfork|access-date=June 5, 2015|date=April 15, 2015}} She released her debut album Dark Energy in 2015 to critical acclaim.{{cite web|title=Critic Reviews for Dark Energy|url=http://www.metacritic.com/music/dark-energy/jlin/critic-reviews|website=Metacritic|publisher=CBS Interactive|access-date=June 5, 2015}} Dark Energy would help to popularize footwork on a global stage.{{cite web|last1=Martin-McCormick|first1=Daniel|title="Challenge (To Be Continued)" by Jlin Review|url=http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/19057-jlin-challenge-to-be-continued/|website=Pitchfork|date=May 3, 2017}}
