The PFF's scheduling for an earlier training camp for the women's national futsal team in late December 2024 than what head coach Vic Hermans scheduled caused controversy. Hermans was realigned with the men's futsal program causing players to threaten resignation. This also caused a rift with futsal patron Danny Moran who initially wrote to Gutierrez to reconsider the move. Nevertheless a new squad was formed led by Spanish coach Rafa Merino for the 2025 AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers in January 2025.{{cite news |last1=Olivares |first1=Rick |title=Philippine women's futsal in row leading to AFC qualifiers |url=https://www.philstar.com/sports/2025/01/02/2411361/philippine-womens-futsal-row-leading-afc-qualifiers |access-date=9 January 2025 |work=The Philippine Star |date=2 January 2025}}{{cite news |last1=Terrado |first1=Jonas |title=Controversy trails PH women’s team bound for Asian qualifiers |url=https://sports.inquirer.net/601449/controversy-trails-ph-womens-team-bound-for-asian-qualifiers |access-date=9 January 2025 |work=Philippine Daily Inquirer |date=8 January 2025 |language=en}} The media was told to "behave" preventing further queries about the squad overhaul.{{cite news |last1=Terrado |first1=Jonas |title=Amid Filipinas buildup, noted football journalist reveals ban |url=https://sports.inquirer.net/608850/amid-filipinas-buildup-noted-football-journalist-reveals-ban |access-date=23 February 2025 |work=Philippine Daily Inquirer |date=21 February 2025 |language=en}}{{cite news |last1=Dacleson |first1=Rodolfo II |title=PFF refutes banning journalist, claims it was Filipinas coaching staff’s call |url=https://news.tv5.com.ph/sports/read/pff-refutes-banning-journalist-claims-it-was-filipinas-coaching-staffs-call |access-date=23 February 2025 |work=News5 |date=22 February 2025}}{{cite news |last1=Terrado |first1=Jonas |title=Controversy trails PH women’s team bound for Asian qualifiers |url=https://sports.inquirer.net/601449/controversy-trails-ph-womens-team-bound-for-asian-qualifiers |access-date=23 February 2025 |work=Philippine Daily Inquirer |date=8 January 2025 |language=en}} The national team did qualify for the 2025 AFC Women's Futsal Asian Cup in China as the best third placed team across all groups.{{cite news |last1=Pedralvez |first1=Bong |title=Filipinas, futsal squad set to toughen up |url=https://malaya.com.ph/sports/football/filipinas-futsal-squad-set-to-toughen-up/ |access-date=23 February 2025 |work=Malaya Business Insight |date=9 February 2025 |language=en}}

His administration received further scrutiny when the PFF restricted access to longtime football journalist Venice Furio, who was seeking to interview Philippine women's national team players at a publicly accessible training camp at the SM Mall of Asia football field allegedly over Furio's critical online comments on social media.
