John Hunter (1854 – 2 November 1881) was a Scottish footballer who played for Third Lanark, Glasgow Eastern and Scotland (four caps).{{harv|Smith|2013|p=129}} He played on the losing side in the Scottish Cup finals of 1876 and 1878, and made several representative appearances for Glasgow.{{cite journal|title=A Record of pre-war Scottish League Players|author=John Litster|publisher=Scottish Football Historian magazine|date=October 2012}} After retiring as a player, Hunter coached Linthouse.
