General Sir John Hartley Learmont, {{post-nominals|country=GBR|size=100|sep=,|KCB|CBE}} (born 10 March 1934) is a former British Army officer who served as Quartermaster-General to the Forces.

Military career

Learmont was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1954.{{London Gazette|issue=40133|supp=y|page=1875|date=26 March 1954}} He served in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and was mentioned in despatches in 1975.{{London Gazette|issue=46456|supp=y|page=222|date=6 January 1975}}

In 1985 Learmont was appointed Commander Royal Artillery for 1st (British) Corps,{{London Gazette|issue=50059|supp=y|page=3467|date=11 March 1985}} and in 1987 he became chief of staff at Headquarters UK Land Forces.{{London Gazette|issue=50868|supp=y|page=3931|date=23 March 1987}} He was appointed commandant of the Staff College, Camberley in 1988,{{London Gazette|issue=51295|supp=y|page=4311|date=11 April 1988}} and then became Military Secretary in 1989.{{London Gazette|issue=51713|supp=y|page=4912|date=24 April 1989}} His final appointment was as Quartermaster-General to the Forces in 1991;{{London Gazette|issue=52732|supp=y|page=18536|date=2 December 1991}} he retired in 1994.{{London Gazette|issue=53704|supp=y|page=8581|date=13 June 1994}}

Learmont was also Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps,{{London Gazette|issue=51427|supp=y|page=8756|date=2 August 1988}} and the Royal Horse Artillery.{{London Gazette|issue=52317|supp=y|page=16822|date=29 October 1990}}
