Post war
Tweedale received a LL.B. degree from Columbian University (now George Washington University) of Washington, D.C. in 1868.{{Cite book | last=United States War Department|title = Official Army Register for 1907 | year=1906 | publisher = The Military Secretary's Office | location = Washington, D.C. | url= https://books.google.com/books?id=evwsAAAAIAAJ|access-date=2008-11-19|pages = 443}} After receiving his commission in the Army, he became Chief Clerk of the War Department.
