Josef Waldbauer (also Joseph Waldbauer, József Waldbauer) (1861–1920) was an Austro-Hungarian composer, violinist and music educator.

Josef Waldbauer was born in Austria in a peasant family. He moved to Budapest where he studied violin at the National Conservatory with Alois Gobbi.Pester Lloyd, February 10, 1897, No. 35, [http://anno.onb.ac.at/cgi-content/anno?aid=pel&datum=18970210&seite=7 p. 7] From 1888 to 1898 he was a violist of Hubay-Popper Quartet. He was father and the first teacher of the violinist Imre Waldbauer (1892–1952).
