Joseph Küffner

He was a violinist with the Würzburg court orchestra,{{cite web|title=Advertisement for Antique Sale of a Küffner String Quartet|url=http://www.antiqbook.co.uk/boox/olde/1444.shtml|accessdate=2008-07-12|date=April 1823|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080216224237/http://www.antiqbook.co.uk/boox/olde/1444.shtml|archivedate=2008-02-16}}Whether the quartet being offered for sale was opus 52 in F, opus 178, or another, was not specified. and was later, when Würzburg became part of Bavaria (1802), assigned to take charge of military music. A quintet of Küffner's for clarinet and strings was once attributed to Carl Maria von Weber, and is still recorded in collections of Weber's music.{{cite web|title=Notes to a Naxos Recording including the Küffner Quintet|url=http://www.naxos.com/mainsite/blurbs_reviews.asp?item_code=8.553122&catNum=553122&filetype=About%20this%20Recording&language=English|year=1995|accessdate=2008-07-11}} He composed seven symphonies and a large number of works for various chamber music combinations. His output also contains a substantial quantity of music for classical guitar (some of it being available in modern editions).
