History
In 1981{{Cite web |title=Wikipedia Emil Frei |url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Frei|language=en}}{{Circular reference|date=February 2025}} Emil Frei III proposed that the American Society of Clinical Oncology should publish an official journal and that it should be called Journal of Clinical Oncology.{{Cite web |title=Journal of Clinical Oncology |url=https://ascopubs.org/journal/jco |language=en}} The first issue was published on January 1, 1983, containing 70 pages of research and an editorial by the then editor-in-chief, Joseph Bertino.{{cite journal |last1=Bertino |first1=Joseph R. |title=Editorial: A journal for Oncologists |journal=Journal of Clinical Oncology |date=1983 |volume=1|issue=1 |page=1 |doi=10.1200/JCO.1983.1.1.1 |url=http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/1/1/1.full.pdf+html}} Bertino was succeeded by George P. Canellos in 1987.
