Early life
Demorest was born in Michigan, and grew up in a very religious family. She said in an interview "I grew up in church, seven days a week. The service was very music-driven, so the pastor created a performing-arts school down the street. There was drama, dance, and choir rehearsal—it was my training."{{cite web|url=https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2016/12/jude-demorest-lee-daniels-star | title = Meet Jude Demorest, the Star of Lee Daniels's Star | work = vanitystar | date = December 7, 2016 | accessdate = January 1, 2017}}
At the age of 16, Demorest moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. After trying everything from backup dancing to singing, she signed with Epic Records under producer L.A. Reid.
Career
Demorest started her career in minor parts, as extras and background dancers in multiple shows and films prior to getting a shot in the 2009 short History of Made Up Things. She had a recurring role on Dallas as Candance, leaving the show after 6 appearances. During the summer of 2016, writer, director, and executive producer Lee Daniels held a nationwide search for Fox's girl-group series, Star (debuting December 14) ending in May 2019. "It was 10 auditions and Lee was part of every one," Demorest said.{{cite web | url = http://www.fox.com/star/bio/jude-demorest | title = Bio – about Jude Demorest | work = FOX | date = December 14, 2016 | accessdate = January 1, 2017 | archive-date = January 2, 2017 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20170102082045/http://www.fox.com/star/bio/jude-demorest | url-status = dead }}{{cite web|url=http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/wednesday-final-ratings-dec-14-2016/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161217113514/http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/wednesday-final-ratings-dec-14-2016/|url-status=dead|archive-date=December 17, 2016|title='Survivor' finale adjusts down, 'SNL Christmas' adjusts up: Wednesday final ratings|work=TV by the Numbers|last=Porter|first=Rick|date=December 15, 2016|accessdate=December 15, 2016}}{{cite web|url=http://thefutoncritic.com/listings/20161214fox06/|title=(LDS-102) "The Devil You Know"|work=The Futon Critic|accessdate=December 14, 2016}}
