Education

Blake completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1974 at the University of Connecticut. She moved to Harvard University for postgraduate study where she was awarded a Master of Arts degree in 1978 followed by a PhD in 1981.{{cite thesis|degree=PhD|first=Judith Anne|last=Blake|year=1981|publisher=Harvard University|oclc=76978818|website=harvard.edu|url=http://id.lib.harvard.edu/alma/990037527150203941/catalog|title=Chromosomal variation in the Jamaican lizard, Anolis grahami}} Her PhD investigated chromosomal variation in the Jamaican lizard Anolis grahami and was supervised by Ernest Edward Williams.

Career and research

Blake's research interests are in genome evolution, biomedical ontologies and mouse genetics. She is one of the leaders and founding principal investigators (PIs) of the Gene Ontology (GO) consortium{{cite journal|last1=Ashburner|first1=Michael|last2=Ball|first2=Catherine A.|last3=Blake|first3=Judith A.|last4=Botstein|first4=David|last5=Butler|first5=Heather|last6=Cherry|first6=J.
