Johnson's first success as a music producer came while he was still in high school selling his beats on the internet. Working with artists such as Micah T from Invasion Productions, he was soon contacted by Mike Caren, Executive Vice President of A&R for Atlantic Records, who signed him to a publishing contract with the label.{{cite web |url=http://www.ozonemag.com/2010/02/11/issue-82-board-game-kane-beatz/ |title=Board Game: Kane Beatz |publisher=Ozone Magazine |access-date=2011-02-21 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101109091131/http://www.ozonemag.com/2010/02/11/issue-82-board-game-kane-beatz/ |archive-date=2010-11-09 }}{{Cite web|url=http://theurbandaily.com/music/jbarrow/kane-beatz-defends-lil-wayne-working-with-nas-and-plies/|title = Kane Beatz Defends Lil Wayne, Working with Nas and Plies|date = 24 August 2011}}
