Production
The film marked Muktha Srinivasan's 50th year in the film industry. Though Vikram's big budget film, Ullaasam (1997), became a box office failure, the producers still offered him the chance to star in a multistarrer project since they felt that he could not carry a film on his own. Newcomer Sriram, who was a medical student, was subsequently added to the cast.{{Cite web |last=Sandya |title=1997-98'in கோடம்பாக்கக் குஞ்சுகள் |trans-title=1997-98 Kodambakkam babies |url=http://www.indolink.com/tamil/cinema/People/97/Dec/kuttisp1.htm |url-status=usurped |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160303201551/http://indolink.com/tamil/cinema/People/97/Dec/kuttisp1.htm |archive-date=3 March 2016 |access-date=18 February 2012 |website=Indolink}}

Reception
D. S. Ramanujam from The Hindu wrote, "the concluding portions where the three meet in a clash of emotions, the boys being beaten by a level- headed girl, requires some more depth in handling."{{Cite news |last=Ramanujam |first=D.
