Career

After almost ten years as a youth coach with Premier League Club Gent and FC Destelbergen, he started his senior managerial career with second division KSV Sottegem in 2010. After spending three years in charge and achieving two promotions of Belgian Fourth Division A club Eendracht Zele, Fraeye had a short stint as an assistant to head coach José Riga at Charlton Athletic. By his own account, he then continued to work for Charlton's owner, Roland Duchâtelet as Sport Director for Alcorcón.{{cite web|url=http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/article.cfm?id=115384&headline=Exclusive%3A%20Karel%20Fraeye%20responds%20to%20Charlton%20Athletic%20recruitment%20rumours§ionIs=sport&searchyear=2016 |title=Exclusive: Karel Fraeye responds to Charlton Athletic recruitment rumours |author=Richard Cawley |date = 8 January 2016 |work=South London Press}} In October 2015, he was announced as head coach at Charlton, quitting the job he then held at Belgian third division club, VW Hamme.{{cite web|url=http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/charlton-appoint-karel-fraeye-interim-head-coach-2764769.aspx|title=Karel Fraeye appointed Head Coach|author=Olly Groome|date=25 October 2015|publisher=Charlton Athletic F.C.}} He was sacked on 13 January 2016, having won just two out of his ten matches while in charge.{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35307403|title=Karel Fraeye: Charlton Athletic sack interim head coach|date=13 January 2016|work=BBC Sport }}

In February 2016, Fraeye was appointed head coach of Belgian Second Division team Lommel, with the initial aim of preventing relegation.{{cite web | url = https://www.walfoot.be/fra/news/lis/2016-02-25/karel-fraeye-devient-le-nouvel-entraneur-de-lommel | title = Lommel United embauche l'ancien coach de Charlton (in French) | date = 25 February 2016 | publisher= Walfoot.be| author=Kevin Jonckheere}} Fraeye succeeded in promoting the team at the second level, but left the club the next season in the beginning of October following a 3-6 home loss to Tubize, which dropped Lommel to last place. {{cite news |title=Pak rammel van Tubeke kost Lommel-trainer de kop |trans-title=Beating by Tubize causes sacking of Lommel manager |url=http://sporza.be/permalink/1.2788414 |publisher=sporza.be |date=2016-10-08|language=nl}}
