He formed the punk band The Vectors in 1990, with whom he was the lead guitarist and part vocalist throughout their career.{{cite web | title=Vectors, The (3) Discography at Discogs | url = http://www.discogs.com/artist/Vectors%2C+The+%283%29 | accessdate = 18 March 2013 }} The Vectors split up in 2008.

Art

Backman and his girlfriend visited the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site in 2010 with a documentary news team from AFP.
