{{short description|Canadian neuroscientist}}
Kathryn Mary Murphy is a Canadian neuroscientist and professor who studies development and plasticity of the brain.
She has been a professor at McMaster University since 1994, where she founded the neuroscience program and prior to that was at McGill University where she won a University Research Fellowship{{cite journal |last1=Kavanagh |first1=Robert J. |title=The NSERC Program of University Research Fellowships |journal=Canadian Journal of Higher Education |date=31 August 1987 |volume=17 |issue=2 |pages=59–77 |doi=10.47678/cjhe.v17i2.183015 |url=http://journals.sfu.ca/cjhe/index.php/cjhe/article/view/183015 |language=en |issn=0316-1218|doi-access=free }} from NSERC and a Sloan Research Fellowship{{cite web |title=Sloan Research Fellowships |url=https://sloan.org/fellowships/ |website=sloan.org}} from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, she grew up in Burlington, Ontario attending the University of Western Ontario for her bachelor's degree and Dalhousie University for her Masters and Ph.D. degrees. While at Dalhousie she held a Ross C. Purse scholarship{{cite web |title=The Ross C. Her academic training took her to the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry on postdoctoral fellowships from Fight For Sight and NSERC. For ten years (2007-2017), she was the Director of the McMaster Integrated Neuroscience Discovery & Study program (MiNDS).
Her research includes studying developmental and lifespan changes in the human brain.{{cite journal |last1=Murphy |first1=Kathryn M. |last2=Beston |first2=Brett R. |last3=Boley |first3=Philip M. |last4=Jones |first4=David G. |title=Development of human visual cortex: A balance between excitatory and inhibitory plasticity mechanisms |journal=Developmental Psychobiology |date=2005 |volume=46 |issue=3 |pages=209–221 |doi=10.1002/dev.20053 |pmid=15772972 |language=en |issn=1098-2302}}{{cite journal |last4=Livingstone |first4=Margaret S. |last2=Frosch |first2=Matthew P. |last3=Murphy |first3=Kathryn M. |last1=Duffy |first1=Kevin R. |title=Cytochrome Oxidase and Neurofilament Reactivity in Monocularly Deprived Human Primary Visual Cortex |journal=Cerebral Cortex |date=1 June 2007 |volume=17 |issue=6 |pages=1283–1291 |doi=10.1093/cercor/bhl038 |pmid=16831856 |pmc=2628812 |language=en |issn=1047-3211}}{{cite journal |last4=Murphy |first4=Kathryn M. |last2=Jones |first2=David G. |last3=Hornby |first3=Kyle R. |last1=Pinto |first1=Joshua G.
