Reception
In his 2016 overview of "Where Portland's Best Bartenders Go on Their Rare Nights Off", Thrillist contributor Alex Frane said Kay's has a "surprisingly good cocktail program".{{cite web |last1=Frane |first1=Alex |title=Where Portland's Best Bartenders Go on Their Rare Nights Off |url=https://www.thrillist.com/drink/portland/best-bars-in-portland-where-bartenders-drinks |website=Thrillist |access-date=May 9, 2021 |date=August 23, 2016 |archive-date=January 10, 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170110194157/https://www.thrillist.com/drink/portland/best-bars-in-portland-where-bartenders-drinks |url-status=live }} In Eater Portland{{'s}} 2019 list of "Where to Imbibe and Dine in Sellwood and Westmoreland", Frane wrote, "Kay's Bar, with its divey, diner-like atmosphere, is bustling most nights, with reliable food, affordable well drinks and pints, and a modest-but-creative cocktail menu. The kitchen puts out classic, well-made bar staples, including a variety of burgers, burritos, and mac and cheese, and offers many dishes on the happy hour menu from 3 to 6 p.m. Notably, the bar has been open in some form or another since 1934, making it significantly older than most of its guests."{{cite web |last1=Frane |first1=Alex |title=Where to Imbibe and Dine in Sellwood and Westmoreland |url=https://pdx.eater.com/maps/restaurants-sellwood-moreland |website=Eater Portland |publisher=Vox Media |access-date=May 9, 2021 |date=February 20, 2019 |archive-date=January 14, 2021 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210114152213/https://pdx.eater.com/maps/restaurants-sellwood-moreland |url-status=live }}
