The Asansol region is composed of undulating laterite soil. This area lies between two rivers – the Damodar and the Ajay. They flow almost parallel to each other in the region – the average distance between the two rivers is around 30 km. For ages the area was heavily forested and infested with plunderers and marauders. According to the 2011 Census of India, Kenda had a total population of 15,731 of which 8,360 (53%) were males and 7,371 (47%) were females. Population in the age range 0–6 years was 1,811. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Kenda has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 51%. According to the District Census Handbook 2011, Bardhaman, Kenda covered an area of 7.95 km². Among the civic amenities, it had 7.5 km roads, the protected water supply involved service reservoir, tap water from treated and untreated sources. It had 820 domestic electric connections.
