History

Kewarra Beach is situated in the Djabugay (Tjapukai) traditional Aboriginal country. {{Cite web|title=First people cultural history|url=https://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/community-environment/first-people/culture-history|access-date=23 June 2020|publisher=Cairns Regional Council|archive-date=9 April 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200409215848/https://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/community-environment/first-people/culture-history|url-status=live}} The origin of the suburb name is said to be from an Aboriginal word 'kewarra', meaning 'at the foot of the rainbow', though this has not been confirmed by linguists. {{Cite web|title=Cairns Heritage: K Suburbs|url=https://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/11843/KSuburbs.pdf|access-date=23 June 2020|publisher=Cairns Regional Council|archive-date=22 April 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180422210233/http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/11843/KSuburbs.pdf|url-status=live}}
