Khallikote University was a state university situated in Brahmapur, Odisha. It was founded in 2015 as a cluster university with five constituent colleges, transformed into a unitary university in 2020 and merged with Berhampur University in 2021, thus ceasing operation.

History

Khallikote University was established in 2015 as the first cluster university in Odisha. This was achieved by excluding five colleges from the jurisdiction of Berhampur University (BU) and granting them autonomy, also allowing them to share infrastructure and faculty. The five colleges were Khallikote College, Sashi Bhusan Rath Government Women's College, Government Science, Chhatrapur College, Binayak Acharya College and Gopalpur College.{{cite news |title=Khallikote to be first cluster university in state |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bhubaneswar/Khallikote-to-be-first-cluster-university-in-state/articleshow/45729543.cms |access-date=14 October 2021 |work=The Times of India |date=2 January 2015 |language=en}}{{cite web|url=https://govtpress.odisha.gov.in/pdf/2015/889.pdf|title=Odisha Gazette Notification|date=4 June 2015|access-date=23 July 2019|archive-date=1 March 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220301191012/http://govtpress.odisha.gov.in/pdf/2015/889.pdf|url-status=dead}} In 2020, the university was changed to a unitary university, i.e., a university with no affiliated colleges, and the five colleges were re-affiliated to BU.{{cite news |title=Khallikote University’s status changed |url=https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/other-states/khallikote-universitys-status-changed/article30935974.ece |access-date=14 October 2021 |work=The Hindu |date=28 February 2020 |language=en-IN}} In 2021, the university itself was merged with BU and ceased operation.{{cite news |last1=Mohanty |first1=Hrusikesh |title=Khallikote varsity merges with BU, staff transferred |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bhubaneswar/khallikote-varsity-merges-with-bu-staff-transferred/articleshow/86672665.cms |access-date=14 October 2021 |work=The Times of India |date=1 October 2021 |language=en}}{{cite web |title=Notice |url=http://www.kub.ac.in/sites/default/files/inline-images/Notice.png |publisher=Khallikote University |access-date=14 October 2021 |date=27 September 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220303002110/https://kub.ac.in/sites/default/files/inline-images/Notice.png|archive-date=2022-03-03}}
