It was written by author Imtiaz Ali Taj and made in Pancholi's Lahore studio. For the first time in British India, there was a lot of "ahead of film release" publicity for this film. As a result, this became a much-awaited film for the Indian public and became a hit film when released.{{cite web|url=http://www.boxofficeindia.com/showProd.php?itemCat=147&catName=MTk0Mg==|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131016214548/http://www.boxofficeindia.com/showProd.php?itemCat=147&catName=MTk0Mg== |date=16 January 2012|archive-date=16 October 2013|website=BoxOffice India website|title=Top earners of 1942|access-date=21 January 2025}} Noor Jehan achieved an overnight stardom following the success of the film.{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=hN6mBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT239|title=Bollywood: A History |page=239 |author=Mihir Bose|date=9 May 2008 |isbn=9789351940456 }} The film also established the career of director Rizvi and music composer Haider.{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=BksDAAAAMAAJ&q=Khandan+Shaukat |title=Perspective |volume=4 |publisher=Pakistan Publications |year=1971 |page=36}}

Plot
A very preachy movie about the 'dangers' of rich men getting ensnared by women of "loose" morals. A rich man is seduced by a gold-digging woman. When she later betrays him, the man kills her along with her new lover. He is arrested and sent to jail for a long time. When he is released, he finds employment as a gardener and becomes a father-figure to his employer's son Anwar and to Anwar's fiancée Zeenat. When he sees the young Anwar falling into the same kind of trap he had all those years ago he does his best to prevent the tragedy of his own life from being repeated in Anwar's.
