Playing career

Kim joined Korea Housing Bank after graduating from university. In 1972, his team won four national titles, and he was selected for the South Korea national team for the first time.

Kim was picked as a member of the national team for the 1974 FIFA World Cup qualification. He scored against Thailand and Hong Kong, helping South Korea reach the final round. In the two-legged final against Australia, he scored a goal again, but South Korea had to play third game after the aggregate score was tied. They eventually lost the rematch 1–0, failing to qualify for the World Cup.{{cite news |url=http://www.kfa.or.kr/news/news_view.asp?tb_name=interview_gisa&g_idx=295&g_gubun=4 |script-title=ko:김재한, 한국 최고의 포스트 플레이어 |publisher=KFA |date=21 May 2008 |language=korean}}{{cite news |url=http://www.kfa.or.kr/archive/player_history.php?search_val=%EA%B9%80%EC%9E%AC%ED%95%9C |script-title=ko:김재한 KIM Jae-Han FP |publisher=KFA |accessdate=1 February 2019 |language=korean}}{{cite web|url=https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/other-sport/2007/02/09/jaehan-those-were-good-old-days|title=Jae-han: Those were good old days|publisher=The Star|date=9 February 2007 |access-date=9 February 2007|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210712072108/https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/other-sport/2007/02/09/jaehan-those-were-good-old-days|archive-date=12 July 2021 |url-status=live}}
