Incidents

In April 1992, rehabilitation work on the pilings for the bridge damaged a freight tunnel located under the Chicago River. The tunnel breach eventually led to the Chicago flood, which flooded the Chicago Loop with an estimated {{convert|250|e6USgal|m3|-6}} of water.{{cite news |title = 1992 Loop Flood Brings Chaos, Billions In Losses |publisher = WBBM-TV |location = Chicago |url = http://cbs2chicago.com/vault/local_story_104140940.html |date = April 14, 2007 |access-date = January 11, 2008 |archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20070927231222/http://cbs2chicago.com/vault/local_story_104140940.html |archive-date = September 27, 2007 }}

In August 2004, a Dave Matthews Band tour bus passing over the bridge dumped 800 pounds of human waste through the open metal grate bridge deck into the Chicago River. The waste landed on an architecture tour cruise boat and passengers passing under the bridge at that time.{{cite news |title=On This Day In History, Dave Matthews' Tour Bus Dumped Human Waste On Chicago River Tourists |url=https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/08/08/dave-matthews-band-poop-tour-bus-incident/ |accessdate=27 November 2019 |work=CBS Chicago |date=8 August 2018}}
