It is most similar to the American and British sundae dessert, a knickerbocker glory, from which it was derived but it has different ingredients. The dish was first popularized by the Hacienda de Palmeras, a restaurant, before spreading throughout the city.{{cite news |title=Hacienda de Palmeras |url=https://zamboangacity.gov.ph/citytourism/2023/06/29/hacienda-de-palmeras/ |access-date=17 January 2024 |agency=City Tourism Office |publisher=Zamboanga City Tourism Office, Republic of the Philippines |date=29 June 2023}}{{cite news |title=Knickerbocker: The Sweetest Tale from Zamboanga |url=https://jontotheworld.com/knickerbocker-zamboanga-city/ |access-date=17 January 2024 |work=JonToTheWorld |date=15 October 2023}}
