Langaard was the son of the businessman and patron of the arts Christian Langaard (1849–1922) and Ellevine Marie Langaard (1857–1890).{{cite web |title=Knut Christian |url=https://histreg.no/index.php/person/pd00000025312024 |website=Historisk befolkningsregister |publisher=Registreringssentral for historiske data |access-date=October 6, 2022 |location=Tromsø}} His first marriage was to Elisif Fearnley (1889–1954),{{cite web |title=Knut Kristian Langaard |url=https://histreg.no/index.php/person/pd00000035343707 |website=Historisk befolkningsregister |publisher=Registreringssentral for historiske data |access-date=October 6, 2022 |location=Tromsø}} the daughter of the shipowner and industrialist Thomas Nicolay Fearnley, in the fall of 1910. Acting career

In 1929, Langaard made his theater debut in the Hans Bille Tour in the play The Spanish Fly by Franz Arnold and Ernst Bach. There he played the role of the lawyer Gerlach, in a debut that the newspaper Smaalenenes Social-Demokrat described as "quite successful": "It's just so strange to see him play a slightly faded copy of himself; he possesses in his private life a far fuller measure of all the freshness, gallows humor, and disdain for difficulties that precisely Gerlach's role is mixed together from."{{cite news |title=Den spanske flue |url=https://www.nb.no/items/4ee1b688ae08b9997aec595d6e37ed9c?page=3 |access-date=October 7, 2022 |work=Smaalenenes Social-Demokrat |issue=41 |date=February 18, 1929 |page=4}} The following year Langaard toured with and played opposite his wife Linge Langård in the Kronstad–Langård Tour with the farce Guttebassen by Margaret Margo.{{cite news |title=Guttebassen |url=https://www.nb.no/items/a6f53923193ce5c8d96fc2b78e0a2659?page=1 |access-date=October 7, 2022 |work=Hamar Arbeiderblad |issue=237 |date=October 28, 1930 |page=3}}
